Meg Rankin

Counselling

My name is Meg and I am a Melbourne-based Mum and Social Worker with 20 years of counselling experience.

I offer Aware Parenting Support, Birth Debriefing, Counselling, Women’s Circles and Clinical Supervision.

I practice from a strengths-based, trauma-informed lens, and I believe in the healing power of sharing stories - that when we are heard, held and honoured, we all have the innate ability to heal.

Meet Meg

  • I hold a Bachelor of Social Work with Honours, and a Graduate Diploma in Gestalt Supervision, and I've had rich and varied work experiences in Social Work roles in Australia, New Zealand and Scotland.

I’ve supported mothers from all walks of life, and I’m always moved by the capacity and drive of women to step into their power in motherhood and forge a new path for their family, regardless of their background.

I support parents of children of any age, but I'm especially passionate about working with parents of babies and toddlers, as this is the space I've worked in for two decades!

I am a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW,) an 'Aware Parenting' instructor, a Women's Circle facilitator, an accredited ‘Circle of Security’ facilitator, and a certified ‘Newborn Observation’ practitioner. I've also completed a Birth Debriefing Mentorship with Lael Stone and Bernadette (‘B’) Lack, along with countless other courses and workshops related to pregnancy, birth, parenting, grief, loss, addiction and trauma.

Along with my offerings of birth debriefing, counselling and Aware Parenting support for parents, Women's Circles and Supervision for care professionals via my business, I continue to work in a tertiary hospital providing specialist training and clinical supervision to health professionals in the maternity sector. I also co-facilitate Mother's groups at MAMA in Kensington, Melbourne.

  • I practice from a strengths-based, trauma-informed lens, and I believe in the healing power of sharing stories - that when we are heard, held and honoured, we all have the innate ability to heal.

I'm passionate about co-creating community with other women, and I believe Women’s Circles are the ULTIMATE space for meaningful connection. Circle offers a safe place to skip the small talk and speak freely about all the juicy stuff together, without judgement or a need to be 'fixed.’ I believe when we connect with each other in this way, we often experience big, beautiful ripple effects in other aspects of our lives too -

    • Less judgement & more compassion for ourselves & others

    • A deeper connection to self (heart, mind, body & intuition,)

    • Acceptance of each other, exactly as we are, in all our mess & our magic,

    • More willingness to step into our power as women, individually & collectively,

    • More capacity to show up for ourselves, our families & our community with integrity

    • More connection, love, joy & intention in our everyday lives.

As a certified Aware Parenting Instructor, I am deeply influenced by the philosophies of 'Aware Parenting.'

Aware Parenting is an attachment-style of parenting developed by Dr Aletha Solter (The Aware Parenting Institute) in the 1980’s, and is supported by research in attachment, child development, neurobiology, trauma, psychotherapy and education. I'm so passionate about this approach - Learn more here: What is Aware Parenting? What Does it Mean to Consciously Raise our Children? - Aware Parenting with Joss

I've also completed 'Circle of Security' parenting (COSP) training in 2019. COSP is a parenting model that offers us confidence as parents to provide a secure base from which our children can explore the world, and a safe haven where they can return for comfort.

In my Supervision work, I am influenced by the rich philosophical traditions of Relational Gestalt Therapy. The Gestalt approach “builds capacity for awareness, allowing people to be more receptive to their own needs, the experience of others, and the world.” Learn more here - What is Relational Gestalt Therapy?

I offer a supportive and practical approach to supervision - a safe space for reflection and processing, where values-based and person-centred decision making is encouraged, and embodied awareness is honoured and celebrated.
