Mother Blessings

Whether you're pregnant with your first baby or fifth, every experience of pregnancy and birth has the power to totally transform you.

To crack your heart open and bring about massive shifts in every aspect of your life.

Inviting you to evolve and grow in ways you never knew possible (or necessary!)

In some cultures around the world, rites of passage such as pregnancy and birth are still celebrated and honoured.

But for many women, particularly those of us who have been raised in modern, Western cultures, these transitions are often not revered in the same way, which means we often feel like we’re stepping into our new role or phase without the witnessing and recognition we deeply desire. We miss the opportunity to really embody the experience, leaving us feeling isolated and unseen. This can create a sense of incompletion or open-endedness in the transition. (This was certainly my experience, birthing my baby during the hard COVID lock-downs in Melbourne - only my partner and midwives really 'saw' me in my final stages of pregnancy and this impacted my experience of matrescence significantly!)

Mother Blessings offer us a beautiful opportunity to RECLAIM this rite of passage in a meaningful way - where the mama-to-be gathers with intention with her closest friends/sisters/mum/aunties, to be truly witnessed in pregnancy by the women in her life who love and support her the most, and where her support networks are reinforced and strengthened BEFORE her baby is born, so she feels as held as possible in those early weeks and months of parenthood. Isn’t that what we all want?!

What’s the difference between a Baby Shower and a Mother Blessing?

In ancient times, women gathered in this way to mark every rite of passage. To support and hold each other in times of transformation.

In recent times, the baby shower has filled this gap for many of us - coming together with family and friends, giving presents to the unborn babe, sharing food, playing games about baby poo and vomit and making jokes about the sleepless nights ahead. These gatherings tend to have an emphasis on the baby, with little to no recognition of the massive changes the mama-to-be is undertaking.

But if you want MORE than this in your pregnancy... if you're really yearning for a deeper kind of love and support from the women in your life as you prepare to welcome your baby earth-side... then my Mother Blessings might be just the thing you're looking for!

My Mother Blessings focus more on the MOTHER than the baby.

Marking her initiation into Motherhood with the reverence and recognition it deserves.

Moving through simple rituals together as a group to mark the rite of passage - such as sharing words of love and support to the mama-to-be, making bath salts, affirmation cards for the labour or bliss balls for postpartum, crafting together, creating a birthing bracelet or decorating a candle to light during the birth. Whatever the mama-to-be desires!

And it's not all woo woo, don’t worry, we’re not going to get naked and howl at the moon at my Mother Blessings - it's all about loving on the mama-to-be, and recognising the entire group of women gathered to support her as her village. Setting the tone for her Motherhood journey.

Generally we have the ceremony first, and then share a morning or afternoon tea afterwards, which is supplied by your guests- they'll be invited to bring a plate to share. We can also use this opportunity to set up a meal train for your postpartum, while you have your support network there together in one place and there's momentum and a willingness to commit to supporting you in the coming weeks and months.
